 Club Notes May

Following a recent visit to the students art exhibition at Cliff Park High School the Chairman Margaret Carver returned the invitation to pupils and their tutor who were warmly elcomed to our May meeting. A proposal was passed to donate £25 to St Nicholas Church Organ Fund. It was announced a painting by Margaret Carver had raised £3100 at a private auction for the British Heart Foundation. An album carefully compiled by the President Julian Macey of images from the Permanent Collection was on display for members to peruse. It was suggested that an original painting or artefact from the PC could be brought along each month for comment. The popular vote from members and guests for picture of the month went to Bill Ditcham for his fine oil painting "A Peaceful Time at Gorleston Beach."  The challenge for members next month set by the students is to create a picture using a different medium from usual. A reminder was given that details of exhibition entries must be in by mid August for our annual exhibition beginning 11th September.

Club Notes June

Society members and guests were welcomed to the meeting and a special introduction was made to Marguerite Smith who has generously volunteered to fulfil the vital position of Society Secretary. Margaret Carver was able to report thanks to the Society for the generous donation made to St Nicholas Church preservation Association and a list of fundraising events was circulated. Julian Macey brought another painting from the Permanent Collection for all to enjoy this being No 74 a water colour of Haven Bridge by Keith Tucker (More from our collection can be viewed on this web site.) A good response tp the students challenge produced thoughtful results - artists had to use a medium or style new to them - Lanyu Wang-Kemp used water based oils to achieve a winning art work as picture of the month.

The Society's Annual Exhibition will be held at the Gt. Yarmouth Library Galleries from 11th September to 18th September (excluding Sunday 12th September) open from 10 am to 4pm daily.
