Formation and Membership
The Society was formed in 1927 to bring art to the people of Great Yarmouth and to provide a good standard of work so that the people of the town would see high quality artworks.
The Society is justly proud of its history and its past members include: Sir J. Arnesby-Brown R.A. who was knighted for his contribution to the nation's art, Campbell Mellon R.O.I. who was the Society's Chairman for over 20 years and exhibited over fifty works at the Royal Academy. Rowland Fisher RSMA. ROI., a landscape and Marine Artist, was a founder member and former President of the Society. There are many other members who exhibited widely and gained prestige within their fields, for example A.L.F.Carey, who was a member of the Pastel Society and J.J.Hall who was one of the leading Illuminators of his day.
A book recording its history is available from the Society for £20. For more details go to Society News
