John was born in Gorleston, a small town near Great Yarmouth, on December 17th 1935. He grew up within sight and sound of the sea and the Norfolk Landscape that were later to feature in many of his works.

Although John did not have any formal training, he studied under the late Rowland Fisher, ROI. RSMA. a well known Norfolk Artist, whose enthusiasm for landscape and marine painting encouraged John to continue painting for pleasure.

From the outset, Rowland Fisher emphasised to John the importance of painting from nature and of painting quickly to achieve truthful expression of the light and colour of a subject. Such an approach has served to develop John's distinctive style.

John has shown his work in various exhibitions in East Anglia, Devon, Dorset and also in France, Jersey and at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Exhibition in London.

John is a member of the Great Yarmouth and District Society of Artsists and his works are in private collections in Canada, Australia, France, New Zealand, Germany, Japan, USA, Rome, Spain and throughout England. John is currently exhibiting in the Harbour Times Gallery in Weymouth.
