Colin Burns

Colin Burns was born in St Olaves in 1944 and is an entirely self taught artist. From his earliest days painting has been his absorbing interest and to this day remains an addictive passion and a major part of his life.

He is a versatile painter and sculptor whose work covers a wide spectrum including landscapes, natural history, sporting genre and marine art, in fact anything that attracts his interest – even portraiture. During his 72 years he has been an obsessive sketcher and drawer and hardly a day goes by without additions to his diary/sketchbook many of which are done with speed and spontaneity.

His work has been presented in many exhibitions over the decades. The early days were spent with the Tyron Gallery, Cork Street, W1. where he held seven one-man exhibitions over twenty-five years. Later his work was included in fine art auctions at Christies in New York and London where he still shows. He is currently represented in London by Burlington Paintings and locally at Mandells Gallery in Elm Hill, Norwich where he has shown for the past forty years. His work is keenly sought-after and is included in many important collections in both Europe and America.

In the 1960s he was one of the youngest members of the Gt. Yarmouth and District Society of Artists eventually being elected Chairman in 1982 but has continued painting to this day. Upon moving home he reluctantly left the Society in 1994.
Colin’s other interests include walking, bird watching and gardening. He is a keen member of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust whose Christmas card he has produced for the past forty years. He lives in Ludham where he enjoys and paints the stunning marshland views and skies of Norfolk.
